Flying Flungi

Let’s imagine that we tested the air in your classroom and found 7 different kinds of mould. Eek! The cleaner says that it takes 5 days for each mould to be eradicated (removed). If the school had to remove each mould one at a time, how long would it take to remove all the mould from the classroom?

7x5 = 30 days
30 days = 4 weeks
4 weeks = 1 month

  1. Hi Auckland,

    It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey.

    I'm so glad that you've chosen to tackle this maths problem in the Summer Learning Journey program.

    Your math equation is a little incorrect, though. 7 X 5 is actually 35. And 35 days divided by 7 days in a week means that it would take 5 weeks to do the job of eliminating 7 kinds of mould from a classroom.

    Ugh, 7 kinds of mould! I hope you're never in a classroom with this problem!!!

    Do you like maths at school? I always did because it was like solving a puzzle or playing a game. I usually had really good math teachers so that helped me to find it enjoyable, for sure. I was lucky.

    I hope that you're feeling happy about your new class this term, and that you've got lots of good friends in your class with you. Good luck this year!!!

    I'll continue to enjoy reading your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
