A House is not a home

On your blog, tell us which project you find most interesting and why.

I found the national reserves in Mozambique more interesting because it mostly focuses on Lansan trees and how it is endangered. I learned that Lansan trees are very fragile and prone to infection when damaged, and have lost at least 60% of their range in the Eastern Caribbean because of all the overexploitation and deforestation.

  1. Hi Auckland,

Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. You've done a good job of describing the project that you're most interested in.

The language in the Fauna & Flora International website is kind of complicated so I'm glad that you were able to understand that the Lansan trees are in danger. Do you know what overexploitation means? That's a very big word!! It means that the people taking the resin out of the trees for insect repellent were taking too much. The trees were being damaged and dying. Now there's a new method used for taking from the trees what is wanted, without killing the trees themselves. Hurrah!

I hope you've learned some interesting things by doing these Summer Learning Journey activities. It's been a lot of work on your part. Good for you!!

I hope you're happy to be back at school!

I'll continue to read your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
