Maths➗

Today for maths we were together with Room 10.
For maths we were split into groups of four.
In my group was De Niro , Amon and Isaia. In each group we were given a math problem.
This is all of the math problem I recall.
"Ms. Aireen has 114 texts left on her phone, and there are six days left of the month, she needs to send an equal number of texts, how many texts can she send each day?"
When my group first saw the problem we all had different.
Next Ms Aireen gave my group a piece of paper with the problem on it.  But before she handed me the pen she said I wasn't allowed to talk or write my strategy because I was scribe. Scribe only writes down other people's ideas.
First to say their strategy was Amon. Amon's strategy was rounding and compensating.

First he wrote the equation.

114 ➗ 6 = ?

First Amon rounded 114 to the nearest ten. Which is 120. I know what you're thinking. Why is it 120 the nearest 10 is 110. Well if you make the number 110 you can't divide it into 6. But if you make it 120 you can divide into 6.
120 ➗ 6 = 20
Next step: 6➗6=1
The six comes from the six he added to the 114 to make 120.
20-1=19
That is the answer 19.

Now I am going to show my strategy.
My strategy is called Splitting/Partitioning.
In my strategy I won't be writing I am just going to be showing you my strategy.

114 ➗ 6 = ?
Split 114 into 90 and 24.
(90➗6)+(24➗6)
=15+4
=19

Blog Commenting💬

On wednesday Miss Collins came in to our classroom and taught us how to share a quality blog comment.
First of all what is a quality comment?
In a quality blog comment there are three main points.
First is positive .So it means say a compliment about the work or what you liked about it.

Next main point is thoughtful.
Thoughtful can be making a connection
to the blog post. You can even say your similar experience with the blog post.

Last main point for a quality blog comment is make your comment helpful. By being helpful you can ask a question.
Another way to be helpful is by giving them feedback. Also you can give the blogger some tips.

After Miss Collins taught us how to make a quality blog comment. I commented on our buddy class is blog.
The blogger I commented on is named Connor.

Technology🏎️🏎️

In Technology I was making a wagon. But I started making a wagon I first needed to write a story about why I am making the wagon.
This is the story I wrote about my wagon i'm making.
I chose to make a wagon for myself because I get bored very easily during class. This wagon also helps me to store my school stationery like pencils and rubbers. This will be very useful and helpful for me.
When I finish my wagon I hope it looks like this.

But when I finish I want to decorate it.
If I decorate it I want it to look like a yellow and green car.

Lines Method➕

On friday we had a substitute teacher. His name is called Mr Tafea.
Mr Tafea has really cool different ways how to solve multiplication problems.
The names of the method are called Lattice , Rainbow , Lines and Algorithm.
But today I am only going to be teaching the lines method.

12 x 13

First you need to draw lines for the number 12.
When you have done it , it would now look like this.

After you have done that. Next you need to write the lines for 13 over the 12. Then it would look like this.

When it looks like this , next you need to count where lines. Then you count it.
After you have counted them. Now its time to add all the numbers together and you will have your answer.
12 x 13 = 156

Polynesia🏝️

WALA: the polynesian travellers.
Today my group was learning about polynesian travellers.
In my group were Timote  , Isaia  Raymond and I.
We created a KWL chart to see what we know and what we want to know.
Before my group made the KWL chart we first watched a video.
This video explains how the navigator travels and what they use to
find the islands.

Encourage🤗

WALA:  encourage.
What does encourage mean?
Encourage means to help out a friend or include them into a activity.
Encouraging can be cheering up a friend or motivating them.
For example when your friend is sad you can encourage your friend by cheering her/him up.  Encouraging is very helpful so you can show whanaungatanga.

School Values👍😀

Our school values are Whanaungatanga , Manaakitanga , Tukumarie , Rangimarie and Ako.
Whanaungatanga means building positive relationships. Manaakitanga means caring for others. Tukumarie means tolerance and  Rangimarie means peace.

Ako means learning and teaching from each other.

Manaakitanga means caring for others. So it means help out a friend if he/she is sad or down. An example of caring for others is helping out a friend or caring for a sick friend. You can show manaakitanga in differents ways by waking up your brother for school. You can even give a friend some of your lunch if they don’t have any.

Whanaungatanga means building positive relationships.
This can be different relationships. For example it could be your friendships. It means being active in your social life instead of gaming. The other relationship can be your family relationships. It means your relationships with your brothers , sisters and cousins.

Rangimarie means peace. It means being friendly to others. There is a saying called “What goes around comes back around”. So if you respect others they will do the same. You can also show rangimarie by being a peacemaker. So it means stopping fights.

Tukumarie means tolerance. So it means being patient and your opinions. Being patient means a person who doesn't mind to wait.
Your opinions are what you think. It’s like what you believe in. So this also involves your taha wairua.Taha wairua me your spiritual well being. It means your morals , beliefs and values.

Ako means learning and teaching from each other.
Showing ako is very easy to show. For example you can show ako by teaching a friend a new strategy in maths. It can even be teaching someone how to play an instrument.

My Wagon🚃

In technology I am in hard materials. For hard materials we are using wood.
For wood we can make anything. But first we need to have 8 working ideas.
After you have done 8 working ideas you now need to pick one.
When you have chosen one of the eight you now have to write the reason why you have chosen it.

Who
Who am I making the wagon for?
I am making the wagon for myself
What
It is going to be a pulley wagon.
Why
Why do you need the wagon?
I need this wagon so I can store my pencils , rubber and ruler in it when i'm not using it.
Where
Where is the wagon going to be used?
The wagon is going to be used during class.
When
When will the wagon be used?
I will be using this all the time during class when I need it.

Ki O Rahi⚽

Every monday we have kiwisport. For our kiwisport we play Ki O Rahi.
Ki O Rahi is a traditional maori game.  Ki O Rahi is an indigenous game to New Zealand.
Ki O Rahi is based on a legend Rahi and his wife Ti ara.
To understand more about the read the legend. Click here to read the legend.
In this game there two teams. One team is called Taniwha and the other is Ki oma.
In the game there are 7 different areas. They are pou(teeth) ,  tupu(rock) , te ao , te marama , te ara , pawero  and te roto.
In this game the taniwha team try to rip the tags of Ki oma and block Ki oma from scoring. Taniwha get points if they hit the tupu. Ki oma's job is to try and score a try. To get a try you need to touch the pou with the ki and run to pawero  to score. But if taniwha rip off your tag you have to try again.

Maths➗

Today I am going to  be talking to you about a strategy that is fast and simple.
The strategy is called rounding and compensating.
There are two ways to do it.

A.

9 x 46 =

first round the 9 to the nearest 10. Then it will be 10.
so it will be 10 x 46.
But remember the 1 that you added to make the 10.
 1 x 46 = 46
10x46= 460
460 - 46 = 414

Now the next one.

B.

9x 46=
first round the 9 to the nearest 10. Then will be 10.

(10 x 46) - (1 x 4 )
=414

Which strategy is the most fastest and efficient way to solve the problem. 9 x 46=?

Today's Word📖

Everyday our class has a new word for the day.
Today's word is Century. Century is 100 years. Our century now is called the 21st. century. It is because 100 x 20 = 2000. And were still in the 21st century.
In the word century there is another word called cent.
Century
Cent is money.  In New Zealand we do not have 1 cent like America.
But we still have 10c , 20c and 50c.

Technology⚒️

In technology we have three groups. In these three groups we do different things. Here are the categories. First is cooking ,second graphic and lastly hard materials. The group i'm in is hard materials. In hard material our teacher is called Mr . Grundy. The hard material we are using is wood. For wood we are building anything we want. I'm building a wagon. Before you start building you need to first come up with 8 working ideas. You need to have a joint to make it work. The tools to make a wagon are mallet , tri-square , ruler , wood and more.

Pitch Dark🏴

Today I am going to be doing a review for the book I've been reading called Pitch dark.
It is a really good book it has lots of twists in this book.
The book is about a boy named David. David has been his team goalie for 2 yrs until he moved to a new school.  Everyday after school david takes a shortcut. During the shortcut David walks through a soccer field. The soccer field is an abandoned place. No one has been at that part of town for years. But one day when david was walking through the soccer field. He found a old soccer but it was still in good shape.
When he picked up the ball he felt like he was being watched. When he looked around there was no one but then he saw a man in a wheelchair. The man in the wheelchair looked really creepy. His face was covered by a tam o shanter. The next day at school david went to play soccer. The team captain steven asked nick ( the goal keeper) to take a rest and let david take over. When steven and his friends were practising their penalty kicks nick was distracting david. Then nick was saying he saw david go through the old soccer field. Then he tells the story about the soccer field that david always walks through. One day before the soccer match . A soccer team was driving to the game one time. But then a very tragic incident happened. The soccer team were in a car crash. But only one of them survived. The boy who survived is now a man in a wheelchair. He has never been seen ever since. David was so shocked that he wasn't paying attention to the players kicking the ball. Soon BANG!! The ball hit him in the head.
That is what I have read upto.

My Inspiration

My Inspiration

A role model who inspires me is Bill Gates.
He is a organised , hard worker and shows leadership when he works.

Bill is a organised man who is the founder of microsoft. He has been working for microsoft over 43 years. He is always focused on work and technology. An example of Bill being organised is that he plans to improve in making better technology by being always focused on his work. By being organised it helps you to finish work and be more organised next time.

Bill is a hardworking man who creates technology and works for microsoft.  He is a successful man. He is successful because he is a hardworking person who is always committed to his work. An example of bill being a hard worker is that he works for hours trying to improve his technology. By being a hard worker bill has continued to achieve many great and amazing things.

Bill is a man who shows lot of leadership. Bill is the owner of microsoft. Bills leadership helps microsoft produce lots of products. His leadership made his company sell millions of their products. An example of showing leadership is during a basketball team. A basketball team has a captain. The captain leads  your team to victory. But instead of that Bill leads his company to produce safe products. By showing leadership Bill carries on to become a very successful man.

In conclusion , showing  these key ideas can help you achieve great things in life. You can become successful. Maybe one day you might be the next bill gates.

My Learning Pathway

My Learning Pathway for 2019
My learning pathway for 2019 is my goals.
My first goal is to finish work on time. I have chosen this goal because I want to organised in the future. To help me achieve this goal I am going to be listening to the instructions carefully. Another way is to not be distracted and move away from people I know is going to distract me.

My next goal is to join every sports tournament.
I have chosen this goal because I like to try new things except type of food.
To help me achieve this goal I am going to be committed by showing up to every training or meeting.  Another way I am going to achieve this goal is by finishing my work so I can not stay inside.

My third goal is to improve in all subjects.
So this means improving in maths , reading and writing. This goal helps me achieve another goal of mine. That goal is to get the academic excellence award at the school prize giving. Back to my third goal. I am going to improve in all subjects by listening consistently to the teacher.

My last goal is to become a representative for my school.
To help me achieve this goal is by becoming a student leader and representing our  school at cluster tournaments. Another way to achieve this goal is by volunteering at school and out of school activities.
