Evolution of a Dog
Over the last 100 years domestic breeds have dramatically changed. Some dogs have been bred to look a specific way, exhibit a particular temperament, and even present a certain color. Tailoring dogs into new crosses for certain attributes is known as "designer breeds". With all of these different crosses, there is interest in testing their DNA to actually determine what breeds, and how much of each breed an individual canine contains. Pure-bred dogs are experiencing medical problems from inbreeding in an effort to maintain the "purity" of the breed. Studies have shown that dogs are being bred more for social influences rather than functionality.Despite dogs being the most phenotypically diverse group of mammals in the world, the evolution dogs have undergone is very obvious in most breeds because of how differently they look today as compared to the past.
